Looks like it was filmed in Lisbon…

Fedora 9 goodness

Fedora 9 is looking awsome!

I’ve been trying it for a couple of weeks, and it’s getting better by the hour.

Two niceties:

  • Encrypted system volume with LUKS, at install time;
  • 3G connections (with my Vodafone 3G card) just works; it just really works; I just clicked “Auto GSM network connection” on NetworkManager and it worked; pure magic here, people.

I used Ubuntu for everything until now, but I’m seriously considering going back to Fedora.

Goodbye, Arthur C. Clarke

A long time since my lsat post, and back to Portugal, a sad note. Arthur C. Clarke has died in Colombo, Sri Lanka, a few hours ago.

Deutschland pt. 1

Here I am in Germany. After a few days in Berlin, where I stayed in an youth hostel, which had no WiFi, I travelled to Bremen, where I will stay during the visit to CeBIT. I finally managed to get online. I was hung over for conectivity… :-)

Berlin is wonderful and I was actually sad to leave it. I still have to look around Bremen, but it also seems nice. Most people don’t speak english, so it’s harder to get around than in Berlin.

Going now… :-)

Youtube is down

Youtube seems to be down for a while…

One may wonder what is happening, but the OpenDNS guys seem to know what really happened.

Hah…

Update: the whole story

Test Mobile Post

This is a test post, being written from my new Nokia E61i.

WordPress could have a “light” post page, but the regular one seems to be working (despite having ~250kb).

I’m using WiFi, so I don’t know how this would work using GPRS or 3G.

By the way, I’ll be going to CeBIT next week. Yay!

TrueCrypt 5 is out

Well, to be honest, TrueCrypt 5 was released the day before yesterday, officially still February 5th.

So, we now have two TrueCrypts (counting OSXCrypt) for MacOS. And system disk encryption on the fly (for Windows).

Nice. ;-)

TrueCrypt 5

The new TrueCrypt version, 5, is due to be released today. Or so they say

What to expect from this new version? Well, some of the promised features:

  • Whole partition encryption;
  • System partition encryption on Windows;
  • GUI for Linux versions of TrueCrypt;
  • MacOS version.

Now, today is here, and TrueCrypt 5 is still not available. The day is not over yet, so let’s see.

Meanwhile, the people at OSXCrypt released a working version of TrueCrypt for MacOS, compatible with volumes created by TrueCrypt up to versions 4.3a.

And why are the TrueCrypt forums so conveniently closed? I wouldn’t mind if they just came out and said they weren’t able to deliver the new version. If they would just admit that… But well, let’s see if the new version comes out until the end of the day.
